I always try to play the wind. It has changed on me several times and blew the elk out before I could get a shot.

Yes, I've seen that clip in the past! Man that wind is swirling! No doubt the moose smelled something but just didn't care! (grin)

I don't think I would have stayed there that long. Those moose are unpredictable. The wind in the number one thing that has to be right. So many times I've felt the wind switch and hit me in the back of the ears and its just a matter of seconds until the hunt is over.

I'm not real sure I would let a cow with a calf get that close to me. I guess you'd have to be there to know for sure. I can tell you one thing, my hunting partner would have been high-tailing it out of there, he was panicking last Season when I was filming a cow and calf from about 40 yds.

wind and movement are our two biggest enemies. If they catch you moving or catch your wind, hunt is over! I keep the wind in my face or sit and wait till it is in my favor. I will never chance it.

Wind is the utmost consideration. There is only a handful of times you will fool or be let off fooling an animals nose . Consider yourself very lucky if you are ever upwind of an animal and he gets your scent and ignores it . It has happened but I always sat in bewilderment instead of shooting. I have actually let off the string to me it feels like cheating . I want to meet them head to head on even ground. If they are that wound up I will try them the next day instead
