Pics From Our Montana Trip

Postby Ghost » 01 24, 2015 •  [Post 1]

Finally got around to loading some pics up on a photo hosting web site (gheez Im lazy lol)
Turning off the hard road, I always feel giddy when we do this.
Image
Only deer we saw and it was right after we turned to go up in the mountains, really surprised by the lack of deer.
Image
Some scenery on the drive in.
Image
Looking back on the road, the road of death as Deb called it :o
Image
Some more scenery from the drive in.
Image
The sunset that greeted us as we set up camp.
Image
Image
Our campsite on day 2, we got back to camp at 10:30pm the night before, slept in to rest our legs.

Making Breakfast
Image
Heading up the trail, there were a ton of elk back here, but unless they stepped out on the trail or you were within 15 yards of them it was too thick to see.
Image
Day 3, went high to glass the area.
Image
Glass, glass and more glass
Image
Glassing in between the fog rolling in and out.
Image
Deb Humping up the mountain.
Image
Old cabin, not sure how old, it did have modern nails
Image
Saw this every night, I think the earliest be got back to camp was 8pm
Image
Finally got on an elk, just a year or two to late :D
Image
This area was loaded and I do mean loaded with elk, but there was no way to sneak through it, ended up seeing a spike and a URE.
This is where the elk were, I was praying for a really windy day to still hunt it, never happened.
Image
This is what the elk were feeding on, and there was tons of it, Im convinced that as long as this was available, the elk were not going to expose themselves in the open, at least durning the day light, anyone know what it is?
Image
This area was on the same mountain as the previous pic, however once you got into areas like this with some site distance (50-75 yards) the elk sign dropped drastically.
Image
Deb using her she-wee, she said this was god send, not having to drop trowel was a huge plus.
Image
Big kitty, only saw these tracks.
Image
Debs favorite spot in the tent, there is a propane heater behind the drying rack.
Image
Inside of the tent, under all those sleeping bags is a queen size air mattress, slept like logs.
Image
Camp site, the blind is a potty.
Image
We brought way to much stuff.
Image
Image
And it all fit on the first try, unlike the trip out, where I had to pack and repack the truck twice.
Image
A good friends brother passed away right before we left, Jim had a thing for wolves, so we brought some of his asses with, placed them on a point over looking a meadow, we thought it was best to let mother nature spread them.

Great pics. Very similar type to the type of terrain I'm gonna be after the elk in here this fall. Can't wait to get some cameras out.

Cort, lots of great photos there sir, it tells the story of what the hunt is really like, the good & how tough the country can be! Nice!
