If you dont live near the Rockies

Postby Lefty » 07 13, 2014 •  [Post 1]

Just rubbing it in if you live on the flat ground
My wife picked me up from scout camp and we put a few miles on the ATV the past three days in SW Montana.
With a fresh downpour We seemed to find elk tracks about everywhere.
Saw a nice 4x4 plus eye-guards mulie way up high

Beautiful. I think that I could just sit in campa all day taking in those vistas without even hunting. Thanks for sharing.

Don't have the pictures to back up my Montana weekend, but the Bighorn treated us VERY nicely this last weekend. Caught a lot of fish and saw some beautiful scenery. Anyone else amazed at how long it stayed green this spring?

We were west of West Yellowstone Montana.
Most of the flowers were in full bloom, some hillsides were so colorfull it really was amazing. We took time and just sat at the lake edge for hours it was so nice. A few places up high we just sa in the sun and soaked up the scenery. Wonderful weather, Then we got home at 5:00 and it was 100 degrees
One campsite we had mosquitoes at sunset . We sprayed our chairs and were fine. We sat at the lakeside without bugspray.
At Island Park Idaho Scout camp for the week I killed more horseflies than mosquitoes

Nice photos! I was thinking the exact thing about the mosquito population, they're extra thick for sure, a little cutters & we were good to go! During our Sept. hunts we don't have any mosquito's so at least they're gone by then!

Thanks for sharing pics, great stuff. There is still deep snow above 12k in central CO, it won't all melt this year.

Parts of SW Montana had 130%-170% snowpack

Just a few years back here in SE Idaho there was too much snow the 2nd week in July to get over 8000 foot German Dugway pass with an ATV, Elk Unit 77/78
I really like those wet years in Feb, Mar, April

A MT, ID, and WA collage ;).. Mixed in some Cascade Range pics from WA. Not really true Rockies but they do have the Pacific Crest Trail that runs from Canada to NM which has gotta count for something :).... Only a few short weeks left folks till we're all back up in God's country!

Pics from my scouting trip 2 weekends ago, found a nice watering hole with good signs around it around 11,700', set a camera up facing it, plan on checking it next weekend. Other 2 are from about 12,500', above the tree line. Found a herd of about 60 elk grazing up there around 3 pm.

Belle never saw or smelled the coyote, 40 yards away. She was playing in the creek, chasing mice and squirrels.

I was thinking that in this situation, if I had one of those wingsuits, I could just swoop down when I find elk :)
