Socks

Postby Dakota86 » 04 24, 2015 •  [Post 1]

Does anyone use polypropylene socks underneath their merino wool socks? Or is it not needed?? I am planning on getting some ultra lightweight merino and light weight merino socks. Is a pair of polypropylene socks needed?

I'm a huge fan of the thin poly socks under my merino wools. They wick moisture away from your feet and seem to prevent sock creep. I personally won't go back to just wearing a single sock in my boots. Just my .02.

I always wear a pair of ankle high performance socks under my wool socks. Better moisture wicking to keep the feet drier, and and "slip" occurs between the sock layers, not against the skin (greatly reducing blister frequency). I don't think they are 100% poly. Even the inexpensive brands at walmart made a large difference in my comfort.

+3 for the next to the skin liner sock.As phantom and Charina mentioned above,it helps keep moisture away from your skin, but most importantly, will slide with the second pair, helping reduce blistering. I also make sure I have plenty of mole skin, just in case. It's very hard to elk hunt with you feet full of blisters.

Plus 4
My daughters work at Sportsman ware house. They have switched to a lightweight "liner" sock for skiing, hunting and Ice fishing, Sales indicate many sportsman do the same.

I havent but likely will own a couple pairs of liner socks by fathers day

I got some silk liner socks on sale at REI and have been happy with them so far.
