a fool and his money are soon parted...haha. knife.

i'm a fool. :)

i LOVE my cheap $14 Mora. will use it until it breaks, and when it does..i will buy another.
the downside of it? i now love the Scandi grind, and ever since gutting the deer with the thing..i have been looking for a "same but different" upgrade knife. scandi profiles are darn easy to sharpen..and a high carbon steel scandi..even easier and hold an edge with ridiculous stamina.

i had two simple criteria:

1. Scandinavian Grind
2. made of Carbon steel.

i've been searching and searching. i've even been emailing back and forth with a few custom knife makers.

i found one and just ordered it!! i now have a HELLE (from Denmark) Temagami Carbon on the way to me. it really sang to me..and hit the marks. the blade is stronger because the steel is laminated with the super sharp carbon steel sandwich in between two layers of stronger (less sharp) carbon steel. the outside layers give it the strength..and flexibility.

i cannot wait!! it got awesome reviews. not cheap..not custom expensive tho..

i am over heavy knives. this one will be less than half a pound..my Mora is less than a quarter pound...and i bet as sharp as a havalon. i leather stropped it, and it is a honest straight razor. i heard i can do the same with the Helle, but the blade will be thicker and have a stronger backbone. i hope this ends my ever lasting knife quest.. fingers crossed.

You'll be happy with a Helle blade. Awesome laminated steel. You can buy Helle blades and make your own handle. I've made a few. Gave one to a friend who severely cut his finger testing it to see if it was sharp. So sharp he didn't even feel it. Then the blood came.

Haha. I cut myself with my mora this year. The blood actually "fountained" out. It shot up about 4"! I admit I almost fainted when I applied pressure, it made a gushing sound. Haha.

I can't wait to get it.

Any pics of your DIY handles?
