A superlight, cheap alternative to game bags

Postby elkmtngear » 10 20, 2014 •  [Post 1]

I've been doing this for many years. Finally had a chance to put the process on video this Season:

Thanks for the video.
I had always questioned the idea when hearing about people doing that and whether or not they could hold up to the insects.

Brent,
The first bull I ever shot, I had no bags. I cleaned up flyblown meat for about 5 hours...so nasty!

I have never had a problem since. Even if you get a small "run" in the nylon, the flies and meat bees do not bother the meat.

I have to ask about how clean they stay too. Any issues with that?
I have to say making a cut through it like you suggested would make me nervous. But it seems like its working out.
Cheap light weight alternative....good stuff.

To be truthful, the quarters rarely see dirt...after I bag them up, I hang them up in an evergreen, and from there they go in the frame pack. But I think the panty hose would keep them pretty clean if you had to drag them through dirt or mud.

Jeff, very interesting! How much do panty hose cost? Curious if they're comparable to game-bags? Thanks.

Paul, here's a link to a 4 pack for 8 dollars...this would bag your entire elk. I always buy size 4X, which are the biggest they make.

Never tried to drag them through anything on purpose! ha, but I did find myself pulling the quarters away from the carcass while flies and bees are in attack mode. Just in the mean time before finding a place to finish and then hang them. I will be passing this on to others, thanks again for posting this up.

Did any one try this last year? I was going to buy some and forgot about it.
